Aurobay to race its high-performance production engine at Pikes Peak 2024

Aurobay will showcase its performance and design capabilities by racing its Spark Ignition 2.0 litre high-performance engine in the world-famous Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in Colorado on 23 June.

Aurobay’s Spark Ignition 2.0 litre high-performance engine is more usually to be found inside a top-of-the-range mild-hybrid vehicles. Now it has been adapted to power a race car, built by Italian racing car manufacturer Wolf Racing.

This is potentially a winning partnership. Aurobay has a long and proud history of winning races with adapted production engines through its heritage from Volvo Cars and Geely. Cars built by Wolf Racing have won the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb several times, most recently in 2023! Not only that, the car will be driven by Italian racing driver, Christian Merli, who is a 5x FIA European Hill Climb Champion.

Also known as the Race to the Clouds, the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, has been running since 1916. The track measures 12.42 miles (19.99 km) and has over 156 turns, climbing 4,720 ft (1,440 m) to the finish at 14,115 ft (4,302 m). The race usually takes around 8-9 minutes, and its unforgiving high-altitude, low-oxygen environment pushes combustion engines to the limit!

During race simulations, Aurobay’s Spark Ignition 2.0 litre high-performance engine has been proven to deliver reliable high performance, despite the low oxygen. The engine is designed to run continuously at 6300 RPM, with transient peaks up to 6800 RPM.

Aurobay CEO, Michael Fleiss said: ‘We’re excited to show the world what our engines can do at Pikes Peak. Look out for plenty more news about Aurobay’s high-performance engines this year!’
